Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care Job Type: Full Time Job Location: Jammu Positions: Nursing Staff & Medical Officers

We’re looking for experienced ICU Support Staff to join our critical care team at SDDM Hospital Jammu. This role is open to both Nursing professionals (BSc Nursing / GNM) and Medical Officers (MBBS) who have worked in ICU settings. You’ll be part of a team that provides round-the-clock care across our General ICU, Neonatal ICU (NICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), and Trauma Care Unit — helping patients through some of the most critical moments of their lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide continuous bedside care — monitoring vitals, ventilator settings, and overall patient condition across all ICU areas
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments accurately and on time
  • Assist doctors with critical procedures like central line insertion, intubation, lumbar puncture, and chest tube placement
  • Operate and troubleshoot ICU equipment including monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and defibrillators
  • Carry out regular patient assessments — neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, and pain evaluations
  • Manage airway care for ventilated patients including suctioning, ETT care, and tracheostomy management
  • Keep ICU charts up to date with assessments, medications given, and any changes in patient condition
  • Respond quickly to emergencies — cardiac arrests, respiratory failures, and other life-threatening situations
  • Coordinate with pharmacy, lab, radiology, and blood bank for urgent patient needs
  • Follow strict infection control practices to keep the ICU environment safe for patients and staff

Qualifications:

For Nursing Staff:

  • Education: BSc Nursing or GNM Diploma from a recognized institution
  • Registration: Valid registration with J&K Nursing Council or respective State Nursing Council
  • Experience: 2–4 years working in an ICU, HDU, or critical care unit
  • Certifications: BLS required; ACLS is a plus
  • Skills: Comfortable with ventilators, patient monitors, infusion pumps, and emergency procedures
  • Bonus: Post-basic diploma in Critical Care Nursing is an added advantage

For Medical Officers (MBBS):

  • Education: MBBS from an MCI/NMC-recognized college
  • Registration: Valid registration with J&K Medical Council or respective State Medical Council
  • Experience: 2–4 years of clinical experience with meaningful ICU exposure, preferably in a multi-specialty hospital
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; FCCS or equivalent critical care training preferred
  • Skills: Familiar with ICU protocols — sepsis management, ventilator settings, hemodynamic monitoring
  • Procedures: Able to perform central lines, arterial lines, intubation, and basic bedside ultrasound

Common Requirements:

  • Good communication in Hindi and English; Dogri is a plus
  • Calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and genuinely committed to patient care
  • Team player — comfortable working with consultants, intensivists, physiotherapists, and paramedical staff
  • Physically fit to handle long shifts and respond to emergencies quickly

ICU Equipment & Technology:

  • Multi-parameter monitors (ECG, BP, SpO2, EtCO2, temperature)
  • Advanced ventilators with multiple modes (CMV, SIMV, PSV, CPAP, BiPAP) and high-flow nasal cannula
  • Syringe pumps and volumetric infusion pumps for precise drug delivery
  • Defibrillators, temporary pacemakers, and 12-lead ECG machines
  • Neonatal equipment — warmers, neonatal ventilators, phototherapy units, incubators
  • Portable X-ray, bedside ultrasound, ABG analyzers, and glucometers
  • Fully stocked crash carts and difficult airway management kits

ICU Units & Patient Care:

You’ll work across all four ICU areas depending on roster and requirements:

  • General ICU: Multi-organ failure, post-surgical care, sepsis, ARDS, and metabolic emergencies
  • Neonatal ICU (NICU): Premature babies, respiratory distress, birth asphyxia, neonatal sepsis, and congenital conditions
  • High Dependency Unit (HDU): Step-down care for recovering ICU patients, post-op monitoring, and cardiac observation cases
  • Trauma Care Unit: Polytrauma, head injuries, chest and abdominal trauma, and emergency stabilization

Quality & Safety Standards:

  • Strict infection prevention — following CLABSI and CAUTI prevention bundles
  • Thorough ICU documentation — hourly vitals, intake-output, ventilator logs, and medication records
  • Participation in mock code blue drills and emergency preparedness exercises
  • 24/7 patient monitoring with clear escalation protocols when patients deteriorate
  • Active involvement in ICU audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement programs

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Modern, fully air-conditioned ICU with advanced equipment and restricted-access protocols
  • Shifts: Rotational (morning, evening, night). Weekend and holiday duties on rotation. On-call during emergencies or staff shortages.
  • Physical Demands: Long hours on your feet, patient handling, and quick response to alarms and emergencies
  • Safety: Regular exposure to critically ill patients and infectious conditions. PPE use and occupational health guidelines are mandatory.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on qualification and experience
  • Night shift and ICU duty allowances
  • Medical insurance for you and your family
  • Budget for professional certifications (ACLS, FCCS, workshops)
  • Paid leave and sick leave as per hospital policy
  • Performance bonuses tied to patient safety and quality metrics
  • Accommodation help for outstation candidates
  • Career growth opportunities as our critical care services expand
