We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our clinical laboratory team at SDDM Hospital Jammu. Our comprehensive laboratory supports the diagnostic needs of our multi-specialty hospital, providing accurate and timely test results for biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, and pathology to assist our medical team in delivering quality patient care across 20+ specialties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, process, and analyze blood, urine, and other biological specimens following established protocols.
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests including hematology, biochemistry, serology, and microbiology.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including automated analyzers, microscopes, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Ensure accurate specimen labeling, handling, and storage according to laboratory standards.
  • Prepare laboratory reports and communicate critical results to medical staff promptly.
  • Maintain quality control procedures and participate in quality assurance programs.
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain laboratory safety standards.
  • Assist in emergency laboratory testing for critical patients and emergency department.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and coordinate with vendors for equipment maintenance.
  • Document all laboratory procedures and maintain accurate records for compliance.
  • Support training of junior laboratory staff and students.
  • Coordinate with hospital departments for specialized testing requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Registration: Valid registration with State Medical Laboratory Council or equivalent certification.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred; fresh graduates with strong academic background welcome.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory equipment operation, microscopy, and automated analyzer systems.
  • Knowledge Areas: Strong understanding of clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunology principles.
  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and basic computer applications.
  • Quality Standards: Knowledge of laboratory quality control, NABH standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Communication: Good communication skills in Hindi, English, and ability to work with diverse medical staff.
  • Personal Qualities: Detail-oriented, accurate, reliable, and able to work under pressure with time-sensitive results.

Laboratory Specializations:

  • Clinical Biochemistry: Blood glucose, lipid profiles, liver function tests, kidney function tests, cardiac markers, and hormone assays.
  • Hematology: Complete blood counts, ESR, coagulation studies, blood banking, and microscopic examination of blood smears.
  • Clinical Microbiology: Bacterial culture and sensitivity, urine culture, wound culture, and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
  • Serology & Immunology: Infectious disease testing, autoimmune markers, and specialized immunoassays.
  • Emergency Testing: Rapid diagnostic tests for critical care, emergency department, and operation theatre support.

Equipment & Technology:

Work with modern laboratory equipment including:

  • Automated Analyzers: Clinical chemistry and hematology analyzers for high-volume testing.
  • Microscopy: Binocular microscopes for cell morphology and microbiology.
  • Immunoassay Systems: ELISA and CLIA platforms for specialized testing.
  • Blood Gas Analyzers: Point-of-care testing for critical care patients.
  • Laboratory Information System: Digital reporting and data management.
  • Quality Control Systems: Internal and external quality assurance programs.

  • Shift Hours: Day shifts with rotating weekend and holiday coverage. Emergency testing availability required for 24/7 patient care.

  • Physical Demands: Standing for extended periods, fine motor skills for microscopy, and ability to handle laboratory chemicals and biological specimens.
