We are seeking a dedicated and fast-paced Medical Assistant to join our Emergency Department team at SDDM Hospital Jammu. This critical role requires providing immediate support to emergency physicians and nurses in delivering rapid, life-saving care to patients with urgent medical conditions. As part of our 24/7 emergency care team serving patients from across the J&K region, you will work in a high-intensity environment where quick thinking and precise execution can make the difference in saving lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist emergency physicians and nurses with patient assessment, triage, and immediate medical interventions.
  • Perform vital signs monitoring, blood glucose testing, and basic diagnostic procedures in emergency situations.
  • Prepare and assist with emergency procedures including wound care, suturing, fracture management, and minor surgeries.
  • Collect blood samples, start IV lines under supervision, and assist with emergency laboratory testing.
  • Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment including monitors, defibrillators, and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Assist with patient transport, positioning, and immobilization for trauma cases and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain emergency supplies, crash carts, and ensure readiness of resuscitation equipment.
  • Document patient care activities, vital signs, and medical interventions accurately and promptly.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families during medical emergencies.
  • Coordinate with laboratory, radiology, and other departments for urgent diagnostic services.
  • Assist with emergency medication administration and follow strict medication safety protocols.
  • Support infection control procedures and maintain sterile techniques during emergency interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Medical Assistant certification or equivalent; Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) preferred.
  • Emergency Training: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred.
  • Experience: 1-3 years in emergency care, trauma center, or acute care environment strongly preferred.
  • Clinical Skills: Proficiency in phlebotomy, IV insertion, vital signs monitoring, and basic emergency procedures.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with emergency medical equipment, monitors, oxygen systems, and diagnostic devices.
  • Medical Knowledge: Understanding of emergency protocols, trauma management, and common emergency conditions.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills in Hindi, English, and local languages for diverse patient population.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift patients, work long hours, and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Personal Qualities: High stress tolerance, quick decision-making, empathy, and commitment to patient safety.

Emergency Equipment & Technology:

Work with state-of-the-art emergency equipment including:

  • Life Support Systems: Ventilators, defibrillators, cardiac monitors, and advanced airway management equipment
  • Diagnostic Equipment: Portable X-ray, ultrasound, blood gas analyzers, and point-of-care testing devices
  • Trauma Equipment: Spine boards, cervical collars, splinting materials, and hemorrhage control devices
  • Medication Systems: Emergency drug carts, IV pumps, and automated medication dispensing systems
  • Communication Systems: Emergency medical services coordination and hospital-wide emergency alerts
  • Transport Equipment: Crash carts, stretchers, and patient transport monitors

Emergency Response Training:

  • Mass Casualty Events: Training for natural disasters, accidents, and emergency situations affecting multiple patients
  • Infection Control: Specialized protocols for infectious disease outbreaks and contamination situations
  • Pediatric Emergency Care: Specialized training for emergency care of children and infants
  • Trauma Team Response: Coordinated team approach to trauma activation and life-saving interventions
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding diverse populations and emergency care across different communities in J&K
  • Language Skills: Emergency medical terminology in multiple languages for effective patient communication

Working Conditions:

  • Work Environment: High-intensity emergency department with advanced life support equipment and trauma care facilities. Fast-paced, unpredictable environment requiring immediate response to critical situations.
  • Shift Hours: 12-hour rotating shifts covering 24/7 emergency services including nights, weekends, and holidays. Mandatory overtime during mass casualty events or emergencies.
  • Physical Demands: Extended periods of standing, lifting patients up to 50 kg, and performing physical tasks under extreme pressure.
  • Emotional Stress: Exposure to traumatic injuries, death, and high-stress situations requiring emotional resilience and professional composure.
