We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled NICU Technician to join our specialized neonatal intensive care team at SDDM Hospital Jammu. This critical position requires expertise in neonatal care, operation of specialized NICU equipment, and providing support to critically ill newborns and their families. As part of our comprehensive maternal and child health services, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of neonatal care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and operate specialized neonatal equipment including ventilators, incubators, phototherapy units, and cardiac monitors.
- Assist neonatologists and NICU nurses in providing comprehensive care to critically ill newborns and premature infants.
- Maintain accurate monitoring of vital signs, oxygen saturation, and other critical parameters for NICU patients.
- Prepare and maintain sterile equipment and supplies for neonatal procedures and interventions.
- Support respiratory therapy including mechanical ventilation, CPAP, and oxygen therapy for neonates.
- Assist with neonatal resuscitation procedures and emergency interventions as required.
- Maintain infection control protocols specific to neonatal intensive care environment.
- Document patient care activities, equipment readings, and medical interventions accurately.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to families of NICU patients during difficult times.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including neonatologists, pediatric nurses, and respiratory therapists.
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of NICU medical equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education programs.
Qualifications:
- Required Education: Diploma in Medical Technology, B.Sc. in Medical Technology, or Nursing with NICU specialization.
- Specialized Training: Certification in Neonatal Life Support (NLS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years in NICU, pediatric ICU, or neonatal care environment strongly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating neonatal ventilators, incubators, monitors, and specialized NICU equipment.
- Medical Knowledge: Understanding of neonatal physiology, common neonatal conditions, and emergency interventions.
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications preferred.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills with ability to provide family-centered care and emotional support.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift infants safely, stand for extended periods, and work in high-stress environment.
- Personal Qualities: High emotional intelligence, patience, attention to detail, and commitment to neonatal patient safety.
NICU Equipment & Technology:
- Respiratory Support Equipment: Neonatal ventilators, CPAP systems, high-flow nasal cannula, and oxygen blenders for various respiratory conditions.
- Monitoring Systems: Advanced cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, and multi-parameter patient monitoring systems.
- Thermal Management: Incubators, radiant warmers, cooling systems for therapeutic hypothermia, and temperature monitoring devices.
- Specialized Equipment: Phototherapy units for jaundice, infusion pumps, feeding pumps, and diagnostic equipment for neonatal procedures.
Neonatal Conditions & Care:
Experience with common neonatal conditions including:
- Prematurity: Care for extremely premature infants requiring intensive respiratory and nutritional support.
- Respiratory Distress: Management of breathing difficulties, ventilator support, and oxygen therapy.
- Congenital Conditions: Support for infants with birth defects and genetic disorders.
- Neonatal Infections: Care protocols for sepsis prevention and treatment.
- Birth Asphyxia: Therapeutic hypothermia and neurological monitoring.
- Feeding Challenges: Nutritional support and feeding tube management.
Family-Centered Care:
